Waydroid: Cannot get it to work or follow the instructions

What's the expected behaviour?

I expect to be able to follow the Wiki instructions and make waydroid work on my Google Katsu.

What's the current behaviour?

When following the instructions, I get an odd response after the command zcat /proc/config.gz | grep CONFIG_RT_GROUP_SCHED gzip: /proc/config.gz: No such file or directory The instructions implies CONFIG_RT_GROUP_SCHED is disabled as long as I don't get get the response of CONFIG_RT_GROUP_SCHED=y Starting the service with sudo rc-service waydroid-container start seems to work: * Starting Waydroid Container Manager ... [ ok ] Starting a session with waydroid session start doesn't work: [18:41:46] RuntimeError: Command failed: % mv /var/lib/waydroid/config_session /var/lib/waydroid/lxc/waydroid

How to reproduce your issue?

By trying to follow the wiki instructions on a relative new installation on a Google Katsu

What device are you using?

Google-Katsu

On what postmarketOS version did you encounter the issue?

• edge (master branch)

• v23.12

• v23.06 (supported until 2024-01-18)

• I confirm that the issue still is present after running sudo apk upgrade -a

On what environment did you encounter the issue?

Environments

• GNOME Shell on Mobile
• Phosh
• Plasma Mobile

How did you get postmarketOS image?

• from https://images.postmarketos.org
• I built it using pmbootstrap
• It was preinstalled on my device

What's the build date of the image? (in yyyy-mm-dd format)

Actually, all this confirms is that your kernel doesn't have CONFIG_IKCONFIG_PROC=y, so the config is not available @ /proc/config.gz. Anyways, I added pmb:kconfigcheck-waydroid to linux-postmarketos-mediatek-mt8183 and it passed without any error so it seems that the kernel this device is using has all the necessary kconfig enabled to support waydroid (@jenneron consider adding that kconfig check?)

This suggests that maybe the problem is permissions(?):

RuntimeError: Command failed: % mv /var/lib/waydroid/config_session /var/lib/waydroid/lxc/waydroid
