What do we use busybox-static-* for?

Follow-up from !5727 (merged) - copying from there

I was actually asking myself what these packages are even used for? We don't have this busybox-static-* for e.g. riscv64 so obviously it's not very important. And grepping around I can not really find any usage apart from some obscure usages in some linux-* downstream packages.

The arm package is used by devices that use the heimdall-isorec flash method, we include the busybox binary in the initramfs. As mentioned this is mainly downstream kernels, but linux-postmarketos-exynos4 also uses it, though there we these days have included a busybox-static binary in the kernel sources instead, and dropped the dependency from the pmaports package.

So we can drop it even for mainline packages? We're working on i9100g mainline port

It is required also for mainline packages, but you can choose whether to cp the file in the APKBUILD everytime, or to copy the file from the busybox-static package to the linux kernel sources and store it there (as done by exynos4). Main reason to keep it in linux kernel sources instead was to simplify kernel building with envkernel, as otherwise the file has to be copied manually everytime.

Real fix would in any case be to port u-boot for i9100g as well. There is an existing very old uboot port for google nexus (tuna) which I think uses the same cpu as i9100g(?) https://github.com/Ksys-labs/uboot-tuna
