Motivation:
Promote open hardware and open possibilities as much as possible.
Encourage currect notorious brands to open their hardware
specifications (years later) because they would want to stand out in
websites of real Linux for phones.
Community award:
In respond to users suggesting to post this message to specific
devices, I suggest to add another template of "Community Award" for
devices such as the few 6GB devices marked under "community" category
etc.
Rationale:
Such messages migh influence users to make better decisions when
choosing a competent device.
When aplied, we might influence a user to spend an extra $10 - $50
dollars so that s/he won't compromise on a cheaper postmarketOS-enabled
device with a lesser good experience, and consequently we might lose
this user.
User:
This page has an award message, I better think this over again and
probably buy a used one of that Community Awarded device, instead of
the "I-am-just-interested-in-seeing-postmarketos-working" device.
User buys a used 6GB RAM device.
3 years later...
User is a significant postmarketOS contributor or marketer for
postmarketOS and real Linux as handset.
So I saw the "certified by postmarketOS" template above and removed it from the wiki, as it seemed a bit weird to give brands this official-looking "certified by postmarketOS" without even asking the core team about it. I guess this was just set up as example, but I deleted it to avoid confusion.
If done right, I could see a lot of value in giving out a badge of honor for the OEMs that behave the best. But this is a lot more complex than it seems on the surface, one has to decide the categories they use to give such an award. Mainline compatibility? Fair trade efforts? Customer support? and so on, just to name the first ones that come to mind. Some OEMs may be good in one of these, but bad in others. I think it would be way too much effort to do this properly, something I don't think we currently want to invest time in (the core team, as they would ultimately have the responsibility to make sure that these certificates are meaningful and the OEMs behave as desired, or are rated accordingly).
Regarding devices to buy: people will probably already look at how well devices are supported by postmarketOS, check the prices of the devices, inform themselves about the OEM and make a decision.
So if you want to promote/rate OEMs, that could be quite useful as separate project that you could of course start if you were interested (on a blog or something?), but at least right now it's definitively outside of scope of postmarketOS.

Yes. It was an example.
Thank you for removing it.
I've waited to do so myself.

The postmarketOS website is a semi-centralized hub.
It would be easier for users to find recommendations at postmarketOS.
Take into consideration that unless new users use YaCy... search
results, even when using multiple search engines via SearxNG are biased
and I don't want to take the risk of postmarketOS being censored
ignored or partronized by the corporates.
I strongly suggest to add a community badge for devices (not OEMs).
We might not like the OEM, but it's better to have semi-spying machine
with postmarketOS installed rather than green recycle bin robot spying
on users others nearby.
