pinephone pro booting into black screen

    What's the expected behaviour?

    UI visible after boot

    What's the current behaviour?

    In about 9 of 10 tries, the PPP boots into a black screen. In detail:

    • tow-boot runs, nothing is on the screen (as expected)
    • text is visible on VTY during boot
    • postmarketOS boot logo shows up
    • screen turns black and stays black

    Via terminal I can see that applications launch successful, and the touch screen even works, e.g. I can click "Continue" in the first screen of the installer and I see on the terminal that it goes to the next screen. But the screen stays black.

    Apparently not everybody is affected by this, I couldn't find similar reports and at least Martijn doesn't have this issue while testing similar images.

    I've also checked whether the brightness is set to 0 for some reason. But that is not the case, I even was able to set the brightness to max with echo 4095 > /sys/devices/platform/backlight/backlight/brightness and the screen got brighter, but still only displayed the black screen. I've also tried switching terminals with chvt and back.

    Notably this happens with both X11 and wayland. Framebuffer on the other hand always seems to work fine.

    Try to boot postmarketOS.
