v22.12 Service Pack 1

@craftyguy A lot of time I've invested in getting the v6.1 kernel for PPP ready for shipment in 22.12, so I forgot to bring PP to it's latest Megi Tag.
With SP1 I'll minimally try to have PP on v6.1 mainline (stable) as well.
Currently stayed behind at v6.1-rc7, instead of the current available 6.1-rc8 version.

hopefully by the time the SP1 is compiled, there will be a non-RC kernel you can move to. I don't like having RC kernels in the stable branch if we can help it

Don't know if you want to wait for a SP release to get it into the stable, or if we should just backport it into the 22.12 branch right now.

Thanks for creating the issue! From planning perspective (with FOSDEM coming up etc.), good next time slots for the service pack would be CW 03 or CW 07. We are currently in CW 01 (see date +%V).

I suggest we backport the two kernel upgrades outside of the service pack (l5 has a sublevel upgrade, allwinner gets away from _rc kernel, seems reasonable to me). And do the service pack with cmd:sudo and other cool things in CW 07 (or later if there's not yet much in there).

@craftyguy, @alistair23: !3758 (merged) was merged more than a week ago to master, do you think it has seen enough testing and we can backport it to v22.12 now?

For linux-postmarketos-allwinner, I think having it one week in master would be good before backporting it.

Hi, I would also suggest to look into #1849 (closed) and to investigate whether this is only a device-specific issue (and could be fixed with the planned kernel upgrade) or a general issue. But even if it's device-specific it would be a good candidate for a SP1 since the Pinephone is one of the two real devices in main and I would rate a broken Waydroid as a regression that is relevant to many end-users.

I've looked into it, but unfortunately didn't get it to work yet. See #1849 (comment 1290750071). So unless somebody reports that upgrading waydroid is useful for another device where it actually makes it work again, I'd not include it in the service pack and rather have it fixed in edge first before we try to backport related changes.
