Elan touchpad (and touchscreen) issues on google-veyron

Describe your issue

What's the expected behaviour?

Both the touchpad and the touchscreen work consistently without filling dmesg with error messages.

What's the current behaviour?

The kernel messages are flooded with elan_i2c 4-0015: invalid report data (ff), with some elants_i2c 3-0010: unknown packet ff ff ff ff sprinkled in.

Also, and more annoyingly the touchpad (but not the touchscreen) randomly dies, leaving the mouse pointer stranded somewhere on the screen.

What device are you using?

google-veyron

On what postmarketOS version did you encounter the issue?

• edge (master branch)

• v23.06

• v22.12 (Supported until 2023-07-06)

• I confirm that the issue still is present after running sudo apk upgrade -a At the moment I am pinned to Linux 6.1.27, while investigating #2375 - but testing different kernel versions as part of that. Will add further details.

On what environment did you encounter the issue?

How did you get postmarketOS image?

• from https://images.postmarketos.org
• I built it using pmbootstrap
• It was preinstalled on my device

Does it revive at any conditions? Any specific logs when it dies? Anything in evtest? Try different things when it's dead, e.g. double/tripple taps, etc

I have an issue where touchpad is stuck on clicks on another laptop, my suspect is interrupt, maybe here too

Nothing seems to help - short of a reboot.

Log-wise I only managed to find those mentioned above.

It might got something to do with suspend/resume - I had a rather odd experience with the mouse slowing down to almost a still-stand with 6.1.62 - mouse movement on the screen being about 1:1 with the distance my finger moved on the touchpad.

But the whole thing is rather random: I've got a few of the messages (1 or 2) in the log with this kernel too, but no mouse crashes as of yet - apart from that single slowdown.
