On-screen keyboard (osk) not usable on edge on samsung-milletwifi using xfce4

What's the expected behaviour?

the osk used to work fine, not problems doing basic text input.

What's the current behaviour?

OSK crashes as soon as I press a button on the keyboard.

How to reproduce your issue?

1. Install edge on a milletwifi device.
2. Boot up
3. Open anything that has a text prompt (terminal, main xfce menu, firefox, 4. wireless network password prompt, etc.)
4. Wait until the osk pops up
5. Press any key and watch it crash

What device are you using?

samsung-milletwifi

On what postmarketOS version did you encounter the issue?

• edge (master branch)

• v23.12

• v23.06 (supported until 2024-01-18)

• I confirm that the issue still is present after running sudo apk upgrade -a

On what environment did you encounter the issue?

Environments

• GNOME Shell on Mobile
• Phosh
• Plasma Mobile
• Sxmo (Wayland/Sway) Please post the output of sxmo_version.sh
• xfce4

How did you get postmarketOS image?

• from https://images.postmarketos.org
• I built it using pmbootstrap
• It was preinstalled on my device

What's the build date of the image? (in yyyy-mm-dd format)

dmesg shows nothing, .xsession-errors shows the following after booting up with a wifi authentication prompt and the osk showing and then clicking on a letter on the osk:
