pmbootstrap kconfig edit results in broken menuconfig

As stated in the headline, whenever I do kconfig edit, I get an unusable menuconfig. I've looked up some troubleshooting suggestions for a normal menuconfig scenario and they suggested setting LANG to en_US or C and see what happens, but that doesn't work. I always get a screen like this when I try to use the arrow keys: https://imgur.com/srsAKze

Some infos about my environment: Ubuntu 18.04, Mate-Terminal, LANG=C, solarized-dark theme, ubuntu font. I would suggest that maybe you add the option to do xconfig instead/additionally, by the way.
