Blog post idea: Librem 5 (Phone) is good for postmarketOS
Created by: ollieparanoid
I think postmarketOS (and Halium, plasma-mobile, ubports, ...) would benefit when the Librem 5 campaign succeeds. They use Debian and not Alpine as base, but we will probably share lots of upstream code which they surely would improve. Some examples:
- They are considering plasma-mobile and gnome
- Maybe they want to use our
osk-sdl
in the initamfs? - matrix integration - once this works, we should be able to simply package it more or less!
The catch is, that they will only continue the project, if they reach the full amount of 1.5m$ (!) in about one month. They already have >500k, so it seems to be feasible. But it is still a long road the go and we might be able to push it a bit with a blog post (if everyone in the postmarketOS community is fine with that).
Here is the structure I have in mind (suggestions very welcome!): Title: "Why supporting the Librem Phone crowdfunding campaign helps postmarketOS (and friends)"
- Proprietary components make smartphones insecure (short explanation why proprietary software is bad)
- postmarketOS tries to fix existing devices
- Librem 5 phone does it right by design (explain that they avoid proprietary components, and isolate them, that they have hardware killswitches etc.)
- (List what we have in common and point out how much we can collaborate)
What do you think, dear community?
