google-sargo: No call audio

What's the expected behaviour?

Audio working in phone calls.

According to https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Google_Pixel_3a_(google-sargo)#Calls it doesn't work, but !4479 (merged) seems to indicate that it should work. So I'm guessing the wiki is just out of date?

There is no audio in phone calls

Start a phone call and try to hear the otherside

google-sargo

• edge (master branch)

• v24.06

• v23.12 (supported until 2024-07-16)

• I confirm that the issue still is present after running sudo apk upgrade -a

How did you get postmarketOS image?

• from https://images.postmarketos.org
• I built it using pmbootstrap
• It was preinstalled on my device

What's the build date of the image? (in yyyy-mm-dd format)

Are you using pipewire or pulseaudio for audio?

So I'm guessing the wiki is just out of date?

It's probably just broken w/ systemd. Systemd support in pmOS is "alpha", I don't recommend using it right now unless you want to help with debugging/fixing stuff.

I'll put out a call of testing once the systemd stuff is in better shape. Also see: #2938 (closed)

I just checked plasma-mobile without systemd and same issue. So it doesn't seem to be systemd specific

plasma-mobile is using pipewire (at least I see it running). Not sure about gnome-mobile and I just reflashed the phone so I can't easily check now

It won't work yet, the alsa-ucm-conf defaults to the headphone jack as we don't have working microphone in this release, the microphone support should land in the next release, and with that, it would make sense to change alsa-ucm-conf

I just wanted to check. The next release of what? I assume the kernel, but I wanted to make sure. This is one of the last major issues for the Pixel 3a (with suspend disabled at least)

The kernel, yes, the update landed 3 days ago, so you can update and now do some calls! (even with e-sim )

Can you check if you see built-in Microphone - Built-in Audio? if so, then it's something related to alsa-ucm-conf, maybe try upgrading it or reinstalling it

Using apk fix --reinstall alsa-ucm-conf should fix your issue

Looks like the kernel update made it's way through. Just updated to 6.10 and I now see the microphone, it wasn't there before.

I'm going to guess that's why it wasn't working and close this. If I hit any problems I'll open a new issue
