Create a flow for users to automate backups, optionally to a cloud of their choice
In Android and iOS, the system is backed up automatically to a specific cloud (Google Drive in the case of Android and iCloud in the case of iOS). It would be interesting to develop a setup flow around automating local and remote backups. It might make sense to offer a few options (as is the case with i.e. UI) and guide the user through the setup?
I don't know...maybe I'm overcomplicating this and the user can just install e.g. bacula or borg or whatever. But I think having an 'endorsed' solution or set of solutions along with a quick-setup mode would be nice.
Although...maybe this doesn't belong here and belongs in the installer repo?

I think a quick-setup mode does make sense, but not now. I think we should currently focus on Security, Stability and Porting.
For later my opinion:
- some solution, thats already well supported, established and focuses on privacy
- installable via the Software app, but not preinstalled
- integration into settings and some quick-setup options after install

For GNOME/phosh it's already possible to sync some data with providers from "gnome-online-accounts": https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Phosh#Synchronization_with_an_online_account -- this can probably be extended long term to offer more sync functionality to those who would like to have it.
Beyond that, it would be great to support etesync at some point to have the data actually end to end encrypted: #726 (closed)
@chiraag-nataraj, if you want to contribute something in this regard, it's a good idea to start scratching your own itch. If your use case is not covered by what phosh/your favourite UI offers now, play around with it and maybe start writing a some notes or a guide in the wiki (could be in a personal User:.../pagename page for starters, like this).

@ollieparanoid I was more thinking a full-device backup rather than the sort of sync that's offered by GNOME/phosh at the moment (think the difference between Android's sync accounts and the backup/restore service that happens invisibly - they're related but distinct).
I'll start thinking about this and maybe write up a few thoughts on a wiki page to flesh out my thoughts/ideas on this.
