Firefox does not start on motorola-harpia

Describe your issue

After launching Firefox, the splash screen is shown but nothing happens. When launching from terminal, various debug messages related to VAAPI show up (don't have the device here so can't provide them, sorry). I tried some workaround altering various LIBGL environment variables but no luck.

What's the expected behaviour?

Firefox should start up normally like on other MSM8916 devices such as the samsung-serranove

• install pmos from image as described in the wiki
• launch firefox

What device are you using?

• motorola harpia

On what postmarketOS version did you encounter the issue?

• edge (master branch)

• v23.06

• v22.12 (Supported until 2023-07-06)

• I confirm that the issue still is present after running sudo apk upgrade -a

• I built it using pmbootstrap
• It was preinstalled on my device

I can not reproduce this issue with phosh on v23.06 (it was updated from a previous version with postmarketos-release-upgrade). I have firefox-esr-115.0.3-r0 installed.

firefox does not work after updating from v23.06 to edge on my pinephone just now. I also get VAAPI errors, but the folks on the matrix chat say that's a red-herring (it's seen even when firefox runs correctly).

I have the same issue. PostmarketOS v23.06 with phosh, and the version of firefox-esr at the moment is firefox-esr-115.3.1-r0. Logs attached: firefox_out.logfirefox_err.log

This is the only thing that looks relevant to me, but I don't know what to do about it:

I got back into trying out postmarketOS after a hiatus, sorry for the late response. Firefox starts up in v23.12, but it is mostly unusable (graphic glitches everywhere). I assume that's an issue with the webrender backend.

Unfortunately firefox hardware renderer doesn't work properly on many old adreno gpus. See #2332 (closed)

I am experiencing the same issue now on a Librem5, fresh (first) install with v24.06 stable. In the console, I see lots of VAAPI errors as well.

I am wondering if this might be related to using f2fs as filesystem. Otherwise I am wondering how this could remain unnoticed on a main device. I will try to switch to ext4 and try again.

Edit: After connecting to the wifi it seems not to happen anymore. Maybe related to outdated system time or similar?
