Pinephone Pro screen blank during boot, so no FDE password can be entered

Describe your issue

What's the expected behaviour?

• Be able to enter FDE passwort like with v24.06.
• show pmOS boot logo animation during boot

What's the current behaviour?

• phone starts, LED turns from red to yellow/green like expected but afterwards nothing happens, the screen is not active (no backlight), so the device is not booting further.
• when installed without FDE, the screen also stays off (no pmOS logo visible at all until User login from the DE is showing up). So without FDE it is booting but not with FDE.

With the previously installed v24.06 it works like expected.

How to reproduce your issue?

Just install with pmbootstrap with enabled FDE with recent master release.

Pinephone Pro Explorer Edition

On what postmarketOS version did you encounter the issue?

• edge (master branch)

• v24.12

• v24.06 (supported until 2025-01-23)

• I confirm that the issue still is present after running sudo apk upgrade -a

How did you get postmarketOS image?

• I built it using pmbootstrap
• It was preinstalled on my device

What's the build date of the image? (in yyyy-mm-dd format)

pmabootstrap 3.1.0 recent master

I might already have a better kernel based solution which tries to fix the kernel regression itself.
I'll do some basic testing with it first to see how the code behaves.

Thank you for your replies, can you help me how to apply this fix? Or should I just stay with 24.06 and try to install 24.12 again when you say it is fixed?

It is indeed that !5955 partly works around the issue.
This bug report is actually a duplicate of #2627, nonetheless thank you for this bug report.
Currently I'm working on a kernel-side fix of the regression, so it's possible !5955 will never be upstreamed.
Nonetheless you are welcome to test that MR of course, then you need to rebuild the image with pmbootstrap, and this MR included.

Yes I would totally do that, the problem is I have never did this before and don't have much experience with that, could you give me a little step by step instructions what I have to do? Basically I have installed pmbootstrap over pacman on Arch Linux and just know how to do the init and to install it on my phone. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask such question.
