Test v23.12 on main and community

Dear testing team and device maintainers, and everybody else who is interested in testing:

the v23.12 testing phase has begun!

How to test

One of these:

• Get a pre-built image from bpo (will be built soon for all devices, status)
  • Make sure to upgrade all packages before testing, and reboot if there was a kernel upgrade
• Build your own image with pmbootstrap (>= 2.1.0)
• Use the release upgrade script (upgrade from previous release, or downgrade from edge is possible)
  • Make sure you have a stable network connection
  • Grab the version from git master for now (until !4592 (merged) is merged and built)

Reports and fixes

Testers:

• Please fill out the template with what works and what doesn't, and feel free to adjust the template as it makes sense in your post.
• If you find a bug: create an issues and tag the device maintainer, and mention the issue here.
• If you need help, ask in the release party chat.

Device maintainers:

• Submit fixes towards edge with a note that they need to be backported.

1. Bluetooth microphone breaks the connection to the headset
2. Earpiece is selected as the default audio output device instead of the speaker

There is a regression with sound settings. The details are the same as for a bug I opened yesterday for edge: #2407 (closed). All of these issues apply also to v22.12. Thus, sound switching on connection of headphones is broken, and also phone calls, because there is no sound in the call, even if calls can be made and received.

I posted an update to #2407 (closed). I don't know how, but it is working better now. If I can't retest this on a fresh installation before the release, perhaps you can consider tests for this device as passed. I'm also curious to see if anyone with a device with the same SoC faces a similar issue.

I tested again using a fresh image. The results are the same. Audio profiles are broken. The audio profile chosen by default id for headsets. I can switch manually to speaker. Then sound is outputted through the speaker, but on connecting a headset, the profile is not switched automatically. This is all consisted with what I reported here: #2407 (closed).

Also, given that I installed a fresh image, I retested FDE for this device. It is still broken and has been for a while. This can be found here: #2434 and here: #1931 (closed).

While FDE has been broken for the past releases for this device, the problem with audio profiles is new to this release (or it was introduced in the course of v23.06, I cannot tell, because I did not install that version to check, only v23.12). This is why I did not check the Testing complete, :ship: it checkbox.

2023-12-16: After some use, I noticed that profile switching works for Bluetooth headsets, but not for headsets using the jack.

Also, just for the record for the problem related to audio profiles, I added the workaround I found for it here: #2407 (closed). So the problem can be fixed by users once the image is installed, so perhaps the issue is not a blocker, but the behavior after installing the image is not correct and it would require a user to look around for solutions in the issues in pmaports.
